hello world.

figured i'd give everyone a heads up.

Im actually totally not allowed to tell anyone this BUT..

Since I love the 3sn fans and the 3sn fans love For Today and I love For Today and I'm in a band that loves For Today and 3sn fans and ALL THREE OF US love sweet shows,

FOR TODAY IS PLAYING IN BARRIE AND MY BAND IS OPENING.

The definition of this^

is called a dream come true.

watch this and tell me these dudes dont redefine what it means to be a christian hardcore band.

these dudes are such an inspiration and really deserve all the support we can and can't afford to give them.

the show will be on valentines day ;)

see you in the pit!

I want to talk about some deep stuff again.

I went to about four to five shows in the past two weeks.
They were all awesome.
Some had some down points.

But what i was listening for this time was not how the bands played, but what they stood for.

The message they brought with them.
The things they spoke over the kid's lives who were watching them.

Many of these kids are so broken.
They think that abuse and alcoholism is regular parenting.
One girl told me about how her mom left her when she was 9 months old..

They think that lust and sex is how to love someone.

That fighting and getting high is the right way to release your feelings of anger.

Some bands encouraged them.
Not because theyre evil dudes but because thats all they know themselves.

But then some bands did the opposite.

They spoke life over the kids.
Talked about what real love is.

That they matter, and are important, and are unique, and have a purpose.

These kids would never at this point step into a church.
Where else are they gonna hear this?

The bands they look up to.

If youre in a band, think about what kind of incredible impact you can have on someone, simply by standing up on a stage and speaking directly to their heart telling them God's truth of His love.

UNDA OATH

so if you missed it, 3sn this week was all about UNDEROATH

this made me happy

because underoath makes me happy

they have a new cd coming out on the ninth
but because the radio is awesome, five lucky people got the cd IN ADVANCE

i got a copy too

lets just say...

actually theres nothing to say

its amazing

alot of people were worried that after aaron gillespie left, underoath would suck or never be the same or sound completely different.

allow me to destroy all those ideals.

its VERY MUCH THE SAME UNDEROATH

but its WAYYY BETTER THAN ANYTHING THEYVE DONE BEFORE

if you wanna see their new music video (which is now my fav video of all time)

go to their facebook page.

A PLEA FOR PURGING

so i shall dedicate this 3sn blogpost to a sickkk band. a plea for purging.

myspace.com/apleaforpurging

these guys are aweome.

first, their mascot is their lead vocalist, a very overweight guy named "dozer"

second, they just put two new tracks up on their myspace and have a new record out.

ALL OF IT IS SOO GOOD.

go buy it.
now.
like stop reading, go to the store and buy their record. you can resume reading this blogpost after your back.

......

okay youre back!!
its sooo good ehh?

now go watch their videos.
their first music video for their song "malvolence" was shot primarily on green screen

and their second for their song "shiver" is ridiculous. it includes a lightsaber ducktaped onto an old tv, and cameos of the entire line up of mychildren mybride and the showdown.

i love this band.
you should too.

blogs inside blogs

so if youre reading this.
you'd understand that this is a "blog"

a blog is an internet term used to describe a series of writings, videos, or any kind of post or publishment that an individual or group would place on the "world wide web" for others to read, watch, or be notified by.

Thats my definition at least.

Anywayzzzzzzz!!!!!!!!!!!!!11

I digress.
I HIGHLY suggest that after youre finished reading this blog, you head over to Jason Wisdom of Becoming the Archetype's new blog. (follow the links on their myspace)

I was reading it cause much of the themes of his writings are parallel to mine.

And thats always cool :)

plus theres a skull with a beard.

recording :)

As I have mentioned, I am the lead "singer" in a christian metal band called Behold! The City (myspace.com/beholdthecity)

What you may not know is that we are currently in the studio recording our very first e.p.!

Its been really sweet as this has been my first very involved recording process on an album that will be fully printed with everything that comes with an album. Were recording in barrie with a solid recording engineer/producer named Kent Sheehey.

We're very excited.

And I bring this up because maybe you didnt know how songs were recorded.
Well I'll tell you :)

First thing your band will need to know is your tempos.
This is because when you sit down to record, youll be playing to a click track or metronome, and you are gonna need to know how fast its gotta click to keep you on time.

Then you record whats called scratch or bed tracks. Basically your guitarist will sit down and play all the most important parts of your songs, not worry about tone or tune so much. This is so your drummer will be able to follow along in the song, and figure out which point of the song is being played.

After drums, its really all guitars and bass. What we did, since one song is in a different key than the others, we recorded all guitar and bass for four tracks, then went back and did the one in drop C.

We wrapped up today with recording our keys and synth and any other weirdo effects and stuff that we're gonna throw into the songs to make them sound very full.

Tomorrow were gonna do a tad more refining on the guitar side of things, and then its alll vocals.
I'm gonna be screaming and singing my lungs out for a few hours...

Better drink some tea tonight.

good week:)

this week has been awesome when it comes to life.

God is really good. Like better than the best you or i could possibly fathom.

I'm a pretty messed up dude and he still sees fit to equip me with everything i need and bless me with everything i could want.

I play in an incredible band with incredible dudes who are incredible friends.

I love an incredible woman who challenges me and grows with me everyday.

I have an incredible job talking about my passion. Loud music right?

I'm telling you all of this because i want you to know something. If you keep your eyes on God, pursue him with your WHOLE heart, and he will absolutely shower you with the most incredible blessings, and you'll live a life free of pain, sickness, lack, oppression or anything that satan thinks he can use against you.

don't ever doubt.
fight on.
Christ is infinitely worth fighting for.

An apology

Hey dudez.

so i need to apologize for some things.
all week long last week i was telling you how i needed you to call in last night cause i had a life changing question to ask you.

and then i wasnt there last night.

i woke up friday with the ever hated strep throat, and all week long i have been battling my swollen tonsils to swallow food and communicate through a faint whisper

which would have sounded stupid over 3sn. imagine me whispering ***get your loud on..***

so yeah i had to be replaced.

if you guys would do me a big favour and pray and thank God for my healing,
i'd appreciate it tons

see you next week

this is important

so many of you may or may not be familiar with the fact that i am in a christian metal band.
we're called Behold! The City and you can check us out at myspace.com/beholdthecity

now im not bringing this up for shameless self promotions but to bring up a good point.

my bands entire and sole purpose and mission is to go into the nasty dark dirty nightclubs around the world and to play God honouring music and simply praise God and be positive influences in a world and scene which otherwise does not see God.

and we are not the only band who does this.

ALL and EVERY band you hear not only on 3sn but all day every day on Life, play their music to bring glory to God and use it as a method of telling peopl that they were born with a purpose, future, and a hope.

therefore

it is VERY important that bands are backed up with prayer. everytime my band practices and plays we always spend alot of time in prayer.

prayer is the most effective weapon we as christians have (because it enables God to directly affect our lives in specific ways)

so if youre praying that God would move every time your fave band plays and that He would touch lives and break chains and change hearts and open eyes, HE WILL, even more so than just with the music alone.

so my point is.

pray for bands, and believe that God will move through YOUR prayers

title? nah.

Hello my 3sn metal minions.

First, I wish to start this blog off with a recount of a phone call i received whilst performing last weeks show.

As August Burns Red was blessing us with their song "Back Burner" last saturday night, the phone started ringing.

I answered.
The gentleman on the other side asked if this was "life one hundred point three." I said it was. He then asked me if i was aware of the type of music we were playing at that very moment.
I laughed.

He went on to explain how shocked he was to hear this coming from his favourite radio station. How he did not understand our show. How, and I quote, "It sounds like something Marilyn Manson would play!"

(as a side note, alot of the music we play is wayy heavier and more BR00TUL than anything that manson would ever dream of writing.)

I first assured him that every note played during 3sn is played by christian dudes in christian bands singing Christ glorifying lyrics. I then asked him, "Sir, who is reaching out to those kids who are devoted listeners of MM? How do they get any kind of positive influence in their lives?"

He was speechless.

My friends, I love heavy music. I worship through heavy music.
In my opinion, the fast and brutal riffs, the gut wrenching heavy breakdowns, and the totally physically exasperating vocals take WAY more passion, and talent to write and play then Casting Crowns.

I like heavy, because i like pouring myself out totally to God, and being able to reach and connect with people who otherwise wouldnt get much exposure to Godly influence.

So next time your parents ask you about your metal, tell them that....

and then crank the volume.

peace!

An Address to the show goers.

If you are like me, and love going to metal shows, either local or large scale, you will have noticed the mosh pits.

Now, I love a good pit.

Lots of high energy, adrenaline, the music just pumping you up, getting slammed around by complete strangers who you know you could get along with because you have one thing in common. MUSIC.

However, where there is moshing, there are the "moshmonsters"

these are the guys who like to mosh because they like to hurt others.

I once witnessed a guy beat up a friend of mine because he wasnt moshing the way he wanted to.

I HATE this.
Fighting should NEVER happen at a show.

This music is supposed to unite us.
To be a safe place where we can be ourselves and celebrate and have fun with the music we love.

NOT a place where we should fear for our personal safety.

There are TOO MANY little boys who are so insecure in their manhood that they have to go to shows and flex their muscles infront of everyone to make themselves feel better about themselves.

WE DO NOT NEED THAT.

These kids need to grow up and learn that fighting is the most immature way to show who you are.

If YOU who is reading this, start fights, or know someone who does, dont come to shows or tell your friend not to.

You ruin it for everyone.

Now that thats been covered,

I leave you with this:

Titled as followed..

SO.

The main topic which i would like to address in the following post is titled as followed:

KINDOMBOUND.

In order for me to recount the week's happenings in a coheric manner, i shall order them chronologically.

By day.

SUNDAY
Junky and I were supposed to leave around 12:30
I got a text from him saying to wait till 1:30
Followed an hour later with a text saying to wait till 3 or so...

So we left the station around three or so lol

Driving down, I watched some episodes of the simpsons and the tick (nostalgiaaaaa) and then got a quarter of the way through the dark night by the time we hit the border. I turned off the dvd play to look as mature and professional as possible. (note we are driving a wildly decal'd life mobile)

Got through the border with little trouble save the line up.. The border guard pretended to ignore the attrocious state of Junky's washing machine damaged passport and we were on our way.

Then we drove.

We arrived at our destination about an hour and a half later. At this point it was around 8 oclock so we went and had dinner at a small (and freezingggg cold) diner. We observed that nearly every item on the menu contained some form of blue (or as americans (and french) spell it, "bleu") cheese... weird.

We went back to the hotel and went to bed.

MONDAY

We got up early and made our way to darien lake theme park. They gave us special media passes which we were naively mistaken to believe that they would give us special priveledges. From Junky's past experiences, there was a special media tent which artists went to for interviews and pictures... No such thing this year.

So with our useless media passes in hand, we rode every rollercoaster the place had to offer save for three (i use the word useless more in jest than in seriousness as the passes did get us into the park every morning and allowed us to watch the bands... and we didnt have to pay for anything).

The three coasters we had not ridden were the "mind eraser," the "sidewinder(or some such thing)," and the "ride of steel" (previously known as "superman."

We did not ride these due to various social or technical and maitenance issues regarding the coasters.

We made our way to the park stage where we witnessed Since October's performance, and later, Thousand Foot Krutch. We met most of the guys in these bands and TFK actually remembered Junky from a previous encounter.

TUESDAY

We woke early again. We discovered that we shared a hotel with Phil Joel, who performed that afternoon. We rode all the coasters again save for the "ride of steel" (once the fastest coaster in the world).

We also made our way into the waterpark to enjoy the massive water slide complex.

We watched Fireflight (whom we met and talked with briefly) perform that night along with Skillet.

Now about Skillet.

I watched Skillet perform a few years ago at Aquire The Fire. Their performance there was mediocre at best..

I was blown away that night. Not only was it a sold out show of over 5000 people easy, the band's stage performance was nothing short of brilliant.

They added a violin and a cello player to their lineup.

And flamethrowers.

It was good.

WEDNESDAY

The last day of Kindombound 2010 started like both others. Early.

We rode all the coasters again, as well as some of the parks other rides.

We witnessed the awe inspiring performance of Disciple, while we enjoyed playing frisbee with some new friends.

That night we watched TobyMac close the week off with another great show.

All that to say in closing:
I have new found respect for Skillet,

and rollercoasters do nothing for me.

I think I'll look to freefall base jumping for adrenaline now...

fourth, a light caught on fire. not the kind of smoke you want during your performance.
fifth, keyboard broke
sixth, guitar broke (it got slammed)

it was a decent show though...

SATURDAY

Saturday, July 3, 2010

So a friend of mine posted on my facebook wall recently telling me to check out this band.

Their called The Ghost Inside.
Now their NOT a christian band BUT

their song "the conflict" features the lead vocalist from War of Ages who i play ALOT of on 3sn because of how amazing they are as a band, and how vocal they are about their beliefs in Christ.

The lyrics of this song i find to be very profound and very original.

This song is about bridging the gap between bands who dont believe in God, and those who do.

People who dont believe in Christ dont like being preached at, this song says so, but at the same time it says that its okay to promote your beliefs, if you do it in a loving accepting manner.

here are some of my favourite and i think most powerful lyrics of the song:

"I know this game.
I can stand with you though we don't see the same.
I want you to know the love that set me free.
I don't worship a concept. I follow a king."

just something to think about.

k im so excited for this i dont even know what to say.

FOR TODAY IS RECORDING A NEW ALBUM

this is my FAVOURITE BAND
no matter what else ive said or will say.

ill just let you read this for yourself (taken from their myspace)

"The album stands as a post in the ground, signifying a moment that has been in the works since before the foundations of the earth were laid. I see a generation of hopeless, abandoned, addicted people finally having the chains of deception broken off of them, and being sent forth, no longer as broken people, but in unity, as the Breaker. This album is their manifesto."

whoa.

stoked.

lol you can get more info on the band and the album at myspace.com/fortoday

supppp

sup yall.

sorry for the lack of bloggin. been super busy with work and band stuff.

speakin of band stuff!
last night was the battle of the bands at barrie free methodist church!
my band behold! the city played and we honestly had the greatest time of our lives.

it was our first show too and there was actually so many things going against us lol.
number one?
our drummer quit two weeks ago. it really sucks cause he's absolutely amazing. truly truly gifted. buttttttttttt things changed around on him and he was forced to move to ottawa.

so what did we do?
get a fill in!
we asked the drummer of my old band, bound and down, to play with us.
his names dillon and hes good. so good that he managed to learn our entire set in three days.

skill.

another thing?
our bassist ryan couldnt practice at all this past week. and we finished writing a song without him. so he basically showed up yesterday, grabbed his guitar, and learned the song right after soundcheck lol

but all that aside, it was incredible.
we got to play a great set in front of great people and talk about our great faith :)

speaking of playing great sets, tonight on 3sn we'll be talking about the best live performances out there, ones youve seen, ones youve heard about, or ones you wanna see!

so call me tonight and tell me! 1 866 737 LIFE

My First Blog!!

Yooo!

This is my verrrryyy first blog as the new host of 3sn. I'm super stoked to be on 3sn. Cuz well lets face it. Loud music is the best music and I honestly can't get enough of it. Its like an addiction... but good for me ;)

To start off, I am verrryyy excited to hear about Underoath's new album. If you didnt hear me over the air talking about it, UO is set to record their new album on May 24 and im excited because of how much theyve hyped up their "new sound."
I can see that being very true since Aaron had a majorrrr contribution to their sound, since he did most of the clean singing and wrote alotttt of their stuff. Either way though, I cant wait to see what this album is made of. I've talked to some friends about it and they say they think this album is gonna make or break the band, so we'll see what happens.

Anywayzzz. Since I'm new to the show, I need to make alot of friends. So call me and we'll chat!
1 866 737 LIFE

Peace out homies.

Haste the Day, Norma Jean, Hawk Nelson

Haste the Day has finally given us the name of their next album. Expected to come out in June, the new album is to have the name ""Attack of the Wolf King". Expect artwork to come out soon for it.

Speaking of new albums, Norma Jean has recorded 13 new songs for their next record "Meridional", the actual album will only feature 10 songs, but hopefully you will see the other 3 released as a B-Side or maybe on iTunes? If you want to go behind the scenes with the group, head over to Decibel Magazine (LINK), where you can find extensive coverage on the album, as well as a ton of pics including one member playing a Felix the Cat guitar

If you are late to the Hawk Nelson scene, and you are interested in getting their older material while saving money at the same time, you are in luck. The group is releasing "Hawkology". This compilation includes "Letters to the President", "Smile, It's the End of the World", and "Hawk Nelson...is My Friend". The album is coming out on June 8th

Finally, August Burns Red is going to do a live album. If you are a HARDCORE ABR fan, then this information is important to you. The live recording is on June 4th, in Manheim, Pennsylvania. It's quite the distance, but tickets for the show are only 10 dollars, and you would be apart of "history", don't forget that

Underoath, Showbread, As I Lay Dying

Easily, the biggest piece of news during the past couple of weeks is about Underoath. Aaron Gillespie has left Underoath. He has been with the group ever since the band was formed, and for the last 5 years, has been considered the leader of the band. He will continue witht The Almost and says their is no bad blood between him and Underoath. If you want to see a quick blurb of his thoughts, just head over to the blog post on The Almost's Myspace (LINK)

Showbread is no longer with Tooth and Nail records. They have moved over to Come&Live! Records. This is a label that donates all their proceeds to those in need. One line stands in the press release though ""[We] will be releasing [our] next album in a variety of formats including a completely free high quality download..." More information can be found on their Myspace (LINK)

As I Lay Dying is teasing us. Rather then giving us a full song from their upcoming album "The Powerless Rise" they are instead giving us just a sample. It's for the song Beyond Our Suffering and (of course), you can hear it on their Myspace

One final piece of news, there is a new Devil Wears Prada video. It's for their song "Assistant to the Regional Manager" You can see the video below

Tuesday, March 30, 2010

The Devil Wears Prada, Emery, Free Music!

The Devil Wears Prada will have their handsome faces plastered on the cover of the next edition of Revolver Magazine, but that's not it. They have also been nominated by Revolver for "Best Live Band". If you would like to see the cover just head over their myspace (Link)

If you are late on getting behind the Emery fan wagon, then now is the time to be looking for their "latest" release "Are You Listening". It comes out on April 6th, but this is not a new album with new material. Instead, it is the band's first three albums in one compilation. Not to bad. Amazon.ca has it for Pre-Order for just 19.99, which is actually cheaper then getting the albums on iTunes

Free music time! Before Their Eyes has put "Sing to Me" for free on Amazon.com. If you want it for yourself, then get it here (Link). That's not all. They are also working on a new music video for the song

Finally, if you are a fan of Facedown records and need some music for your MP3 player, then you are in luck. The record label is offering you a free music sampler. All you have to do is sign up for their news letter, and 13 tracks can be yours. You can find out more at Loudbytes (Link)

Since October, Secret & Whisper, and More

Since October has some VERY exciting news. Their brand new song "The Show" will be the main theme at this year's Wrestlemania (that's the 26th edition if you are keeping count). So where does this come from? Well, it's off their new album “Life/Scars/Apologies,” which has just been completely in will be in stores shortly (I would predict before Wrestlemania)

Secret & Whisper have also been working on their new album "Teenage Fantasy". This album actually has a release date (which is April 6th), but they have just posted the new artwork and track listing which you can see by linking up here

As you can tell now, this blog post has a "new albums are a coming" theme to it, and this next bit of news concerns Blindside. They have taken a five year hiatus, but they are back and working on their next project with Howard Benson. This is what the band has to say about the record "“We have been working on this album for 3 years and really feel we have something special, something worth waiting for and something worth getting right.”"

Now, this is only a rumor, but Switchfoot is looking to do another music video. No word on which song they are picking but the rumored director for this would be Jennifer Love Hewitt

That's this week in 3SN news!

The Almost, House of Heroes, Demon Hunter

If you are a fan of Classic Rock, and by Classic Rock I mean Tom Petty, you should be interested in what The Almost is doing. For the compilation album "Punk Goes Classic Rock" they have cover Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers' "Free Fallin" and you can hear that track here (SPIN.COM)

House of Heroes has pretty much wrapped up recording their new album, and now they are letting the producer do the rest of the work. That's the good news. The bad news. Tim Skipper is the only original band member left. AJ Babcock and Colin Rigsby, who both had been there since day one, are no longer with the group. The new drummer is Josh Dun and the bass position will be filled by Eric Newcomer.

In more positive news, Anberlin is back in the studio working on their fifth album. They are working with Brendan O’Brien who has worked with Pearl Jam, Rage Against Machine, and Bruce Springsteen. Not much is really known on what the sound of the new album will be like other then Stephen Christian tweeted this “Day one recording and this record were on tape! Something I have always wanted.” Interesting...

Last but not least, Demon Hunter has a brand new video out for their song "Collapsing". You can check it out below

Haiti Relief Song, Disciple, & Haste the Day

With the dramatic events that have happened in Haiti, Aaron Sprinkle is looking on releasing a Haiti Relief song and it promises to have some very prominent voices on it. Jon Micah of Kutless, Trevor McNevan of Thousand Foot Krutch, Aaron Gillespie of Underoath, Jeremy Camp and many more have been confirmed for the song. There is no other information then that, but more news is expected to come.

Micah of Disciple has had a very rough January. He had his wisdom teeth removed, and there was an infection (which is never fun), and needed to have three surgeries to clean it all up. If you were one of those who said a quick prayer for him when he was going through all that, make sure to check out his latest blog on Disciple's Myspace. (CLICK HERE)

Finally, Haste the Day is promising that their next album will be the “heaviest, catchiest and most energetic music the band has ever written." This might be just PR speak, but they are also throwing a brand new DVD in the package which should include footage of the band's time in South Africa, New Zealand, Panama, and many other exotic places. They will be heading out with Skillet and tobyMac on the "Awake and Alive" tour

Skillet, The Almost, and Showbread

They have done it again. Skillet's new album "Awake" is officially a hit. With 300,000 copies sold to date, these guys are on planet 9. The first single off of the album was "Hero" and it was just announced that is going to be used for the promotion of “Percy Jackson & the Olympians: The Lightning Thief.” Not to shabby at all

The Almost have a brand new video out. Their last one was for "Little Drummer Boy", so with this new one they have picked a song that is less... seasonal then that. It's for the first single off of "Monster Monster" called "Hands" (probably heard it before). You can see the video here (The Almost - Hands)

Finally, Showbread has a new DVD out called “Nothing Matters Anymore". It contains your typical content for a music DVD. Music Videos, Studio Footage, Intereviews, etc. You can actually see a teaser, right here

Demon Hunter, P.O.D. , & More New Albums

2010 is starting off with a nice little bang. Demon Hunter has just announced they have a new album coming March 9th, titled The World is A Thorn, and their first single "Collapsing" you shall hear on Saturday on the Red Hot Music Preview. This album marks the fifth one that they have put out, and as a tradition with Demon Hunter, you will have their trademark skull on the cover and yes, Aaron Sprinkle will be producing it

P.O.D. is also making some noise. They are coming back to do a tour... in South America. They haven't toured in quite some time, so it will be good to see the band get at it again. This news comes from a news release that they sent, which also mentions that Wuv and Marcos have been doing some recording in the studio, and although that does not mean a new album, it means they are at least warming up to doing another one

Now, with confirmed new albums coming, Children 18:3 and Secret & Whisper are both working on the their sophomore releases with Tooth and Nail. Secret & Whisper will put out their new album next month called Teenage Fantasy and they have posted a new single on iTunes called "Warrior (Southern Arrowwood). Children 18:3 haven't said much yet, but you can expect a new album in the second half of this year
