A Great Show I Saw

As promised, here is the full-er review of the crazy show I saw last night.

For Today:
I missed half their set cause I was late, but as soon as I showed up it was apparant that they were killing it.
I could recognize what song they were playing when I was half way down the street (The Advocate)
These guys were SO tight, it was my second time seeing them since valentines day when I got to open for them with Behold! The City
The great thing about FT is their no-holding back approach to sharing Jesus.
Mattie made it very clear that he wasnt talking about a book, a god whos off in the clouds, or any of that crap, but a real God who's power to change lives is incredible.
They were awesome.

Enter Shikari:
My brother first showed me this band a couple years ago, and I couldnt wait till I got to see them for the first time.
They said they've been "abusing music genres since 2003" and nothing could be closer to the truth.
These guys have super heavy breakdowns, gutteral vox, catchy and intelligent rap verses, dubstep/dance parts, everything.
Really good, their drummer was hilarious, but their guitarist couldnt stay on time in a couple places it seemed.

Whitechapel:
I first heard of Whitechapel a lonngggg time ago when i was first getting into metal. They're a six piece death metal band (three guitarists!) and very heavy.
Actually, too heavy. It seemed that every riff they played consisted of the lowest three notes, then a blast beat, then this stupid echoe effect on the vocals into every breakdown.
Honestly, it sounded like one whole song. A very long, exruciatingly boring song.
Jussayin.

The Devil Wears Prada:
The performance this band delivers never ceases to amaze me.
Picture for example, their opening song Dead Throne. The stage is complete darkness, then suddenly BAM a quick flash (in time with the sample track) of the rear stage strobe lights creating a sillouette of their vocalist, standing on the center stage riser with arms extended arms. BOOM the lights are on on the first note of the song and the band is going so hard, not missing a SINGLE note or beat.
Mike made it clear that they are a band that exists SOLEY for the purpose of Christ "no apologies"
my onlyyy scrutiny would be that his vocals were a little harsh, but thats probably due to two months of straight touring.

It was a great show!!

wake up

Have you ever felt that you needed to wake up?

I mean in a spiritual sense?

This weekend I had the opportunity to meet some incredible people.

As often in my life, it was music that brought us together.

I watched this band from kitchener/london play, called Liam Dagger.

As SOON as this band began to play, it became very clear to me that there is only one word capable of adequate description.

Passion.

Every note they played, every word they yelled, every beat they struck, i literally felt the raw emotion pouring out of these guys.

And not emotion for nothing, it was so so clear their sole goal was to magnify christ with every breath in their lungs and every sweep of their arms.

I want people to see that when they see me.

I want them to see christ when they see me.

germs.

i recently took my girlfriend out to see the movie Contagion.

... romantic i know.

Anyway before watching this movie, I always used to make fun of her for being so ready with her hand sanitizer.

Shes not a crazy germophobe, just germ concious..

This film made it VERY apparent just how seriously serious business germs can be.

It took an outbreak like SARS or H1N1 and blew it into a worldwide scale. People were dying from this disease left right and center.

All because of germs.

Gross in my opinion.

So consider this a public service announcement...

Wash your hands children.

NEW STUFF FROM GREAT BANDS

KAY.

So A Plea for Purging recently released a new track to their facebook page from their new record "The Life and Death of A Plea for Purging."

Its SO rad. Andy Dynamo loves it.

ALSO,
in recent interviews, Micah of Oh,Sleeper went into depth about their new record, and how it will win them new fans, and turn off many of their old ones. Apparently their new cd takes the lyrical perspective of those who DOUBT the existance of God, what goes on in their mind, and the questions they have...

Could possibly be very offensive to those who are a little close minded.....

Kinda like Jesus was ;)

anyway just filling you in!

Writing

as the vocalist in my band its my chief responsibility to be the lyricist

at times i find this to be extremely difficult as i face 2 main problems

WHAT DO I WRITE ABOUT
and
HOW DO I SAY IT

Recently we've begun working on a new full length cd, and I really want all the songs to have a reocurring theme, that is SEEKING God and how different people do it or where they look.

Gonna be realllyyy interesting to see how this turns out :)

He Did It

Last week I asked you to pray that God would show up in Sebs life and GUESS WHAT HAPPENED

We were sharing some sleeping arrangements with a youth group we know, and saturday night, they decided to have their own little worship time with an acoustic guitar. Well seb was around while this was happening and Gods presence filled that place like crazy!!!!!

Seb just broke down in that place and had a really great converstation with B-RAD (the youth pastor)

he's SO CLOSE to giving his heart to God so keep praying!!!

God Is Real

As Ive mentioned before, and will most likely continue to mention, I play in a band called Behold! The City

What I may NOT have mentioned, is that our drummer Seb, is NOT a christian.

He's in fact been an athiest for quite a while. Now, we agreed a long time ago to be respectful of each other's views and that hasnt caused really any issues. BUT being in a band full of spirit-filled christian dudes, seb can't escape the reality of God.

In a little while, the band is going to play at OVERFLOW youth conference in waterloo. Please pray that God will really rock seb's life that weekend!

easter time

easter again.

im not gonna write a big huge post about easter, but i will share with you something God talked to me about a few months ago.

we all know Jesus went through the worst of the worst in his death. And only did so for you and only you. no other reason than that HE loves you enough to die and be tortured in hell for you.

I was thinking about what lengths love like that would go to.

God immidiately told me that IF, by anymeans, the penalty for our sin was MORE

if Jesus had to go through MORE than he did.
be dead LONGER than he was,

by ANY LENGTH, TO ANY DEGREE

he'd do it again and again and again

without hesitation, regret, or remorse

thats love.

british christian hardcore?

Tonight I received a call from an older gentlemen. He asked me if this was 3sn. I responded yes (as I am not akin to falsifying the truth.) I was expecting him to tell me how evil metal is etc.. But instead he asked me a question to which I had no answer. "What are some christian metal bands from Britain?" I CANT THINK OF ANY. None that are full time, professionally touring type bands.. Anyway I need your help. We're relying on you. British Christian Hardcore bands? TELL ME 1 866 737 5433 Jake

just wanna say.

God is the type of God who answers prayer.

Every prayer you pray, God has an answer for you.

Sometimes you wont see the answer right away..

Not because God wants you to suffer longer or anything.

But because he knows EXACTLY when receiving the answer will count most.

He is the type of God who meets your every need, and loves to just talk with you.

Go tell him whats up!

Faith is hard

Faith is hard sometimes.

To believe youre being led in the right direction, when you have no idea where you're going.

And on the way, the ground your using to support you seems to be really unstable.

Its tough to keep going on.

But we have to.

Its what God asks of us and really, trusting him is the LEAST we can do after what he went through to save us.
He literally faced the worst tortures that Hell could conjure.

Only for a bit though ;)

I REALLY wish I was there to see the look of TERROR on satans face when He stood up in victory and walked right out of there.

I'm sure he wasnt too gentle about it either..

Stay in faith friends.
We serve a God who's stronger than the worst possible confinements in the universe.
And He knows what He's doing.

Well I'll get to that...

Ever watched stupid sitcoms on tv that you really just dont like?

My friends came up with a good premise for one:

Captain Kirk.
And a time machine.
Goes back in time.
But gets stuck in an apartment in the 80's.

Bill Cosby's apartment!

The problem is that Kirk is stuck with Cosby while he keeps making attempts to fix his time machine.

But bumbling Cosby keeps messing up his plans accidently and offering him Jello.

Funny? No?

hahaha just think about it.

VIDEOZ :)

Just thought I'd share the good news with you all :)

As I am sure youre well aware, I play in a band called Behold! The City

Lots of good things have been happening for us and I think its just because we keep praying our direction as much as possible.

Lately something has started for us, which I believe has the possibility to change this band forever.

A guy by the name of Kevin Millington contacted us, and told us that he'd like to shoot a documentary about a band on the rise, and said that we were perfect for it as our band has a special focus.

We started shooting last night at a show we played in Burlington. We did some personal interviews and I ended up spilling my heart and guts in front of a camera for almost half an hour.

All the guys have such passion and I really hope our love for God, and recognizance of the underground hardcore community really comes through what is portrayed in this film.

Also, we're shooting our first music video this tuesday and wednesday.

PUMPED

Please keep us in your prayers everyone.

Thanks

if youre not going anywhere.

Lately ive struggled with feeling like ive been stuck.

Im in a school program that i dont like, i have no idea where i wanna go in life, or how long the things im currently holding onto will last.

so stuck, but drifting.

i confess that ive felt frustrated with God cause if he's supposed to be leading me, why am i not going anywhere?

I know im not the only one whos feeling this way.

Today, God gave me the answer to this kind of dilemma.

Ask, and listen!

Jesus repeatedly said that if you ask ANYTHING in HIS name, he'll do it for you!
That simple.

The bible says that the steps of the righteous are ordered by God.
Stand on that scripture, confess it over your life, and watch God just smash down doors for you in any area.

The second step after asking and faith is to really seek God.
Make sure you spend time with God, apart from whatever else goes on that day.
This time is EXTREMELY important in our spiritual lives.
Its in this quiet time where we give God our full attention, without the distractions of our daily lives, and thats where God will teach you and show you the most things, like in my case, where to take the next step in my life.

Hope that helps somebody somewhere.
